WORKSHOPS
AFTER SCHOOL
Bring your robots to life & awaken your budding engineers
We run structured workshops each week for primary school aged children of all ages. They run as after school clubs for 90 minutes, straight after primary school finishes. Each session is based around a fresh, relevant and topical idea, allowing them to work in pairs to hone their team working skills and make new friends. Bookings are made for a block of sessions on a term-by-term basis.

Getting started
Our 5-8 year olds are now reading, writing and taking on new maths challenges - so let us help them with that. We use activities and games that focus on developing their literacy, numeracy, computing, science and technology skills. From as early as 5 years of age your children will start building their mechanical LEGO® robots, frogs and helicopters.
Through the use of tablets they are quickly introduced to basic computer coding. Suddenly they can bring their models to life and make them do what they want, be it navigating motion sensors or changing directions or making noises on demand. Watch their little faces light up as they record their own sound effects for the robot to voice as it treks around the floor following their own commands.

Getting savvier
As they get older they get even more clever - as do the machines! As Key Stage 2 starts to embrace more challenging scientific and programming concepts, so do your 9-11 year olds here at Yellow Brick Lab.
We offer this older age group the chance to explore science, engineering and computing concepts through building, programming, recoding and sharing their experiments. Your children will learn about science without even realising it, by building more complex robots, creating their own solar and wind turbines, or even their own dams. Who knew engineering could be so much fun?
Visit The Kits section to find out more - the opportunities are vast if the appetite is great enough.

Did
you know?
In 2014 Britain became the first G7 country to introduce compulsory computer science on the school curriculum for all children aged 5 to 16. By the age of 7, all children will now be expected to be capable of writing and debugging a simple program.
